Safety Tips for Driving in the Rain
Below are safety tips for safe driving during rainy weather:
- Prepare your car. Check the
wiper blades for wear, and test the wiper mechanism to ensure that it is
working.
- Check the defroster and fan
to ensure that condensation can be removed from inside the windows and the
windshield.
- Inspect the tires and make
sure they are properly inflated.
- When it is raining, drive
with the headlights on low beam. Don’t drive with the hazard warning lights on.
- Slow down when it is
raining. Your car needs three times more stopping distance on wet or slick
roads.
- Maintain a space cushion of
6 to 8 seconds between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you.
- Use extra caution when
passing other vehicles because rainy and cloudy weather reduces visibility.
- Check the brakes as well.
- Don’t hit the brakes if
your car skids. Gently ease off of the accelerator and steer in the direction
of the skid.
- If it is too dangerous to
drive, pull off the road, stop the car in a safe place, and turn your hazard
warning lights on. Best wishes for an incident-free season
